What do I need to enrol?

You'll need to have held a full New Zealand driver's licence for two years or more.

Remember, once you've passed the course you'll need to be assessed as a 'fit and proper person' to act as an instructor. The NZ Transport Agency coordinates this vetting process. If you have any concerns about this, please discuss this with us - or the NZ Transport Agency - prior to enrolling in the course.

What does the course fee cover?

Your course fee covers all course requirements including:

  • Pre-course reading material
  • Tuition
  • Training manuals
  • Road codes
  • Theory test papers
  • New Zealand Drivers' Training Syllabus
  • Mirror and backing board.

When do I need to pay?

The course fee is payable in two parts. We require 50% no later than five working days prior to your course start date. When we have received your deposit, we'll forward your pre-course material. The balance is payable on the first day of your course.

Are there any additional costs?

Yes. You may need to pay a hook-on fee to the NZQA framework (if you haven't already done so).

Additional costs are incurred when attaining your `I´ endorsement from the NZ Transport Agency. These include application and vetting fees. You may also need to have a medical examination. And, in some cases, you'll need to re-sit your practical driving test.

What NZQA units does this course cover?

  • Unit 3466
    • Apply risk reduction techniques while driving
  • Unit 14511

Can I start work as a Driving Instructor once I've passed the course?

Not straight away. First, you'll need to apply for `I´ endorsement with the NZ Transport Agency.
