The 2010 AA ENERGYWISE Rally will take place 11-14 October and competitors will drive 1,780 kilometres around the North Island promoting fuel efficient vehicles and fuel efficient driving techniques.
The Rally takes place every two years and is jointly organised by the AA, the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Authority (EECA), and Gull Petroleum New Zealand.
Vehicles are pitted against each other in eight different categories, ranging from micro to large-lifestyle vehicles, for the title of the most fuel efficient vehicle in each class. The Supreme Winner is the vehicle that costs the least to complete the rally, based on fuel consumption and any applicable road user charges. Motorists will be able to follow the Rally online, on Twitter and on Facebook.
Stella Stocks, General Manager AA Technical Services, says “everyone wants to make the most of each tank of fuel. The AA ENERGYWISE Rally shows that choosing a fuel efficient car can save drivers significant amounts of money.”
EECA Chief Executive Mike Underhill says the Rally also demonstrates that small changes to the way people drive can make a significant impact on their fuel consumption.
“Rally participants will be driving as efficiently as possible and it’s incredible what a difference a few simple efficient driving techniques can make. You can cut your fuel use by as much as 20% - that’s like having two months free fuel every year!”
Gull Petroleum, known for giving value to Kiwi motorists, is the major sponsor and will provide the petrol and diesel for all rally vehicles.
Gull New Zealand Limited General Manager Dave Bodger says “Gull understands how fuel costs affect New Zealand families, that is why we always look to have the best deal in the market. Everyone can save money by looking at how they drive. The AA ENERGYWISE Rally is a fantastic way to promote fuel efficient driving and Gull is happy to again sponsor this event and to assist motorists in saving dollars.”
To encourage everyone to think about their fuel consumption, motorists are encouraged to get online@aaenergywiserally.org.nz and enter the competition to win a $2,750 ultimate fuel efficient driving package competition.
The 2010 AA ENERGYWISE Rally winners will be announced at an awards dinner in Auckland on Thursday 14 October.
