General Manager – Driver & Vehicle Licensing/AA Financial Services
David joined the AA in 1998. He was involved in the planning for the New Zealand wide rollout of driver licensing, which went live May 1999. In 2002, AA’s Financial Services Division was added and since then, the two divisions have existed side by side. David is a member of the AA Life Board, is responsible for managing the AA’s relationship with Heartland (Marac Finance and Marac Insurance), and is the AA’s contractual relationships manager with NZTA for counter services (driver licensing and vehicle licensing). Prior to joining AA, David was General Manger of Trust Bank Auckland, completing 32 years with Trust Bank in Southland and Auckland.
Chief Information Officer – Information Technology
Doug joined the AA in 2007. He is responsible for the IT systems and networks across the AA, including Geosmart, AA Tourism, AA Smartfuel and the Driver Education Foundation. Prior to joining the AA, Doug held senior roles at Microsoft and EDS. He has also been CEO of Gateway, APL+ and Wang (now gen-i). Doug has been on the TUANZ Board since 2007, and Secretary/Deputy Chair since 2010.
General Manager – Membership & Brand
Dougal joined the AA in February 2004. He is responsible for Membership, Business Vehicle Solutions, Contact Centres and the overall AA brand. His prime focus is on growing membership, enhancing the value which AA Membership provides to Members, and maintaining and developing the AA’s brand via visual identity and service reputation. Dougal introduced the ‘MyAA’ Membership pricing model, which rewards Members with discounts on their Membership subscription, based on their length of tenure. Prior to joining the AA, Dougal spent eight years at Air New Zealand, where his last role was responsibility for managing loyalty including Airpoints and Koru Club.
General Manager – Finance
John joined AA Central (Wellington) in July 1989. He became General Manager Finance in 1991 following a series of mergers that brought the 15 independent AA’s together to establish one AA in New Zealand. John has overall responsibility for Finance, managing Financial and Management Reporting, Audit, Tax and Treasury for the Association, including its wholly owned subsidiaries as well as a number of its Joint Ventures. Prior to joining the AA John held financial management roles in the car and computer industries.
General Manager – AA Assist
Mandy joined the AA in 2012. She is responsible for overall performance of AA Auto Glass Ltd and AA Battery Service Ltd, which are joint venture companies with Club Assist Corporation Pty Ltd. Prior to joining the AA, Mandy was General Manager for Ultimate Transport Solutions, an international logistics company specialising in international sea/air freight, customs and local transport operations.
General Manager – Digital & Direct Marketing
Mark joined the AA in 2015 and is responsible for aa.co.nz as well as our analytical and digital marketing services. His focus is on improving our digital and data capabilities, growing use of the AA’s website, providing analytical support to the AA’s businesses, as well as ensuring we comply with all our customer data security obligations. Mark is also a member of the AA Life Board. Prior to joining the AA, Mark worked at Lloyds Banking Group as well as at the AA U.K.
General Manager – Motoring Affairs
Mike joined the AA in 2005. He is responsible for motoring policy – that’s everything the government and its transport agencies do that affects motorists and AA Members. His role encompasses road safety and infrastructure, transport funding (including fuel excise, road user charges, regional fuel taxes), speed limits, traffic enforcement, environmental issues and petrol prices.
General Manager – AA Tourism Publishing
Moira is an experienced Media/Publishing Executive with significant knowledge of both the New Zealand and Australian market place. She has managed an extensive range of lifestyle magazines for Fairfax New Zealand and has run her own media business in Sydney for a number of years. Moira has solid experience in publishing, marketing, sales, digital and strategic development and implementation. She is also a Director on the Boards of Qualmark and National Tourism Alliance (NTA) in Australia.
Murray joined the AA in November 1997. He has a number of administrative and quasi-legal roles across the Association. Primarily he provides secretarial assistance to the AA National Council and Board, and to a number of subsidiary services and joint ventures, including AA Insurance, AA Life, Club Tourism Publishing, GeoSmart, AA Battery Service and AA Smartfuel. Murray is also the administrator and a Trustee for the AA Superannuation scheme, is the Association’s Privacy Officer, and looks after government compliance requirements. Before joining the AA, Murray had a similar role with the NZI group of companies.
General Manager – Club Operations
Peter joined the AA in November 1979 and has a wealth of experience across the Association’s Member services and commercial business operations. Peter is responsible for the overall club performance and its services, including Roadservice, Tourism and the AA Directions magazine. He is also a Director on the Boards of NZAA Auto Glass Ltd, AA Battery Service Ltd, AA Smartfuel, and Qualmark.
General Manager – Human Resources
Romana joined the AA in April 1998. She is responsible for the Human Resources Strategy, policy processes, and payroll within the AA and within some of the AA’s subsidiaries and joint ventures too. From call centre staff, to Roadservice Officers and AA Centre staff, Romana’s goal is to ensure staff are equipped with the right resources and competencies to successfully fulfil their roles. Prior to joining the AA, Romana was an HR Manager for Radio Network.
General Manager – AA Driving School
Roger Venn joined the AA Driving School in May 2016. He has a passion for cars and motorbikes and is a firm believer in improving road safety through safer driving. Before joining the AA he worked in various finance positions for organisations including the World Masters Games, RedBull and Rolls-Royce Aerospace. He is managing a busy AA Driving School which has recently added a number of new products and services to its business. This includes the AA Ignition programme that offers three free driving lessons to learner drivers, which ended its first full year of operation in July 2016 with 19,000 sign-ups. Other relatively new additions to the Driving School include the very popular AA Road Code Practice Tests as well as Simulated Driving Tests to prepare people for their Full Licence test. Changes have also occurred to programmes for senior drivers, motorcyclists, and in the Defensive Driving and Fleet & Business programmes.
Managing Director – AA Smartfuel
Scott has been Managing Director of AA Smartfuel since October 2011. Scott successfully launched the AA Smartfuel programme in November 2011 and has overseen the growth in the programme to where it is today. In its first 10 months, AA Smartfuel issued over $27 million of fuel discounts to cardholders. Scott’s prime responsibility is to ensure continued growth in the programme through growing retail partners, marketing activity, increasing transactions and system enhancements. Scott was the founder of the Smartfuel programme and has a background in the fuel industry.
General Manager - Motoring Services
Stella has led the AA’s Motoring Services team since 2002. Stella manages all vehicle related AA services (except Roadservice) and the provision of technical and motoring advice to Members and the public. Stella is also responsible for the AA’s involvement in vehicle safety and is a Council member of ANCAP (the Australasian New Car Assessment Programme) and the VSRG (Vehicle Safety Research Group) run in conjunction with MONASH University. She is also a Director on the Boards of AA Auto Glass Ltd and AA Battery Service Ltd. Prior to joining the AA, Stella spent 11 years with Nissan New Zealand as General Manager for after sales service and customer satisfaction.
General Manager – Centre Network
Trevor joined the AA in October 2000 and has the responsibility for the national retail operation, the prime products and services outlet for Members and customers. The distribution network extends as far north as Whangarei and as far south as Invercargill, and is made up of 38 AA Centres and 17 AA Districts. Prior to joining the AA, Trevor worked in the retail banking industry.
Chief Executive – AA Insurance
AA Insurance Limited is a Joint Venture between the AA and the Suncorp Group. Chris Curtin joined AA Insurance as Chief Executive soon after the company’s launch in 1994. Chris is responsible for managing the company’s growth, profitability and organisational reputation. He has worked in the insurance industry for over 30 years, having commenced his career with GIO Australia in Sydney, Australia. Chris is also a director on the Board of the Insurance Council of New Zealand.
