New Zealand Law Society ID card

The optional NZLS photo ID card, as processed by the AA, is primarily for those lawyers involved with court work and who are required to be producing valid identification to security officers for access to the Courts.

In 2010 the AA was appointed as the sole provider of Identity Verification and Photo ID Services to the NZ Law Society (NZLS). The NZLS has its headquarters in Wellington. Its function is to regulate all lawyers though membership of the society is voluntary.

Each year all practising lawyers are required to renew their Practising Certificates. It's an offence for someone without a current practising certificate to describe himself/herself as a lawyer.
