We have a Ford Explorer XLT and have just recently purchased a caravan. Find that the tow bar sits a little high with the caravan which makes towing a bit ungainly. Can we get the towbar lowered or otherwise adjusted so we can more safely tow the caravan?

If it's a fixed tongue towbar, your only real safe option is likely to be to have a new towbar fabricated. If it's a removable tongue towbar, it may be possible to get a new tongue. It's probably not a safe option to modify either the towbar or caravan drawbar.
I'd suggest contacting someone like Bestbars who should be able to find a solution.
