Hi,

I'm looking at replacing my instrument cluster with an aftermarket one. It's on a motorcycle but I would imagine the regulations would be the same as those for a car. Would this modification require a certification?

Regards, Greg

No, it will not need certification (obviously it will need to be a recognised standard speedometer). However, it's illegal to sell a vehicle/bike as having a certain odometer reading if it's not the true distance it has travelled. You will need to disclose the odometer change when you selling the bike.

The mileage is recorded at WoF inspections so it will be picked up if a vehicle history report is done for the bike as the mileage between WOFs will be inconsistant.

I suggest you contact an instrument/odometer repairer before you do anything, as they may be able to repair your current speedo at a similar cost to an aftermarket/used unit.
