Hi, I had recently purchased a 2005 Toyota Voxy the tyres it has on it are Toyo (studless Garit G4 195/65R/15 they have 6mm tread on all 4 tyres, now I am getting different comments from service stations saying they are a soft tyre and ok to use them and tyre dealers saying they are dangerous, heading away on holiday at the end of january and not sure if I should replace them, need advise thanks

They are legal and safe to use on our roads but the tyres are designed to perform at its best in icy conditions. They are a soft compound tyre and you won't get much life out of them on our roads due to New Zealand's warmer conditions.

The tyres cannot be mixed with other types of tyres and this could pose a problem if you are faced with a damaged tyre; especially as these tyres aren't sold new in NZ. As 4mm (minimum) of tread is the legal limit for snow tyres consider replacing the tyres soon - Now might be a good time to replace all the tyres (inc spare if necessary) to standard tyres before going on leave.

No matter what tyres you have fitted always drive to the conditions.
