I'm looking at buying a 2010 Japanese import. It doesn't have a spare tyre, instead where the spare tyre is normally kept, it has a tidy insert which contains a repair kit (including one of those cans of "foam"). Is this acceptable in NZ to pass WOF's etc? Also, not sure how to use one of these, instructions are all in Japanese, hopefully we can figure it out. Your comments would be appreciated.

This is very common on many new cars today (not just Japanese imports, but many NZ new cars). It is perfectly legal.
There are numerous tutorials on the internet of how to use tyre inflation kits. Bear in mind that there are some variations to tyre inflation kits, depending on make and model, so if the link I've provided isn't your exact one, google your car's make and you should find a suitable tutorial.
