Hi, I am considering buying a new Mitsubishi Mirage. It is at the top end of my finances and to buy an alternative would mean getting a second hand car. This comes with 3 years free service and 5yr new car warranty. I am recently retired and only need it for local travel. It has a 5star safety rating.. What if any opinions do you have on this car. Many thanks. Jan

The Mirage is a good, well-built, safe and well-priced little car. With only a 3 cylinder engine, it takes a bit of getting used to, as you get the impression it's running rough, when that's exactly how it's designed to run, but it's fuel efficient and a great "shopping basket", but might struggle on a long trip.
Another very good car that also has a 5 star safety rating and is in a similar price range is the Kia Picanto. The Picanto is similar in many respects to the Mirage, but has a little more power so may be slightly better on the open road.
Either way, these are both good cars which should provide safe and enjoyable motoring.

Thanks Mr Bayliss. I've just bought the Kia Picanto. It felt slightly more solid for my use and got it at a very good price.

Fantastic! I think you've made a very good choice!
