Hi,

Many car dealers offer this so called secure-a-car-with deposit thing, where the car is still in transit and if secured with small deposit, the purchase price on that car reduces.
Is this something that can be trusted with?

Another query about the dealers advertising warranty on the cars, is that different from what AA offers?

This is a ploy on the dealer's part to try to get customers to commit to buying a car before it has landed in New Zealand. Personally, I'd never commit to buying a car sight unseen, and as there are so many used cars for sale these days, don't be coerced into believing it's a once-only opportunity or that you might miss out. There are more and more used cars arriving from Japan all the time, so even if one does sell, there will always be another one along soon.
Warranty policies (or more correctly, mechanical breakdown policies) are readily available from a number of sources, one of which is the AA. Don't be confused between a warranty policy (which will pay for repairs) and AA Roadside Assistance (which is an AA Member benefit whereby the AA will attend a breakdown and either repair on the roadside if it isn't a major job, or tow the car to a garage for repair - but you have to pay for the repair).

That reply helps, thanks a ton.
