Our 2000 Nissan Maxima is getting rather tired, so we're thinking of replacing it. Do SUVs (like the new Xtrail) offer more cargo space than a large sedan (like the Altima)? How about running costs? Fitting in 2 golf trundlers and 2 sets of clubs is a must for us!

The small/medium SUV sector is the biggest growing market sector at present, and for good reason. These vehicles are practical, have plenty of space and suit outdoor lifestyles.
In terms of actual cargo space when the seats are folded up, they may only offer a similar floor area, but the space can be more usable, in that the height is usually greater and there is the practicality of being able to fold the seats down.
Overall running costs are usually no greater than a mid/large car and when it comes to resale, an SUV will be more popular so you're likely to suffer less depreciation with an SUV.
