Hi there,
I am seriously looking at purchasing an imported 2005 Mazda Axela 23S from an importer in Auckland. Can you tell me if the price is reasonable given the following specs? The asking price is $13 988.00.

59,021km, Grey, 5 door, Hatchback, Petrol, 4 cylinder, 2300cc, Manual, ABS brakes, Sport Suspension, Air conditioning, 17" Alloy wheels, Central locking, Driver airbag, Passenger airbag, Power steering.

The importer also states that all its vehicles come with a full mechanical service, are VINZ inspected and have had Odometers certified by the A.A.

How does an AA pre-purchase inspection differ from a VINZ inspection?

Thanks

This is at the top end of the pricing scale for a 10 year old vehicle, but it is a good, popular model and assuming you're buying from a reputable dealer, there should be some good peace of mind in knowing that you are covered by the Consumer Guarantees Act, so in the event of a failure, the dealer is obligated to rectify any problems.
Don't be fooled by the dealer saying the car has had a "VINZ Inspection". This is merely a regulatory compliance requirement for all imported cars (Either AA, VINZ or VTNZ carry out the compliances). It merely ensures the car meets the legal requirements to be on the road in NZ and is in no way a mechanical inspection or anything like an AA Pre-purchase inspection, which would be advisable on a 10 year old car.
Basically, it's a good model at a price that's not a bargain, but which you would expect a dealer to ask. I'm sure it would be open to negotiation!
