I am wanting a newish model hatchback up to $16,000 low miles and like the look of both the Mazda2 sport or the Peugeot 307/308. Loved the feel of the Peugeot and the style as looks are important but want reliability also . What would you recommend?

This particular comparrison varies due to the different sizes of the two makes you have listed.
The Peugeot 308 is larger and could be compared to a Mazda 3.
Or a Peugeot 207/208 would compare with the Mazda 2.
All are good cars, the Mazdas are a more popular choice as far as trusted reliability is concerned. For the money you wish to spend, you will be looking at 2009-2012 years.
Your choice may come down to personal preference. However my pick would be the Mazdas.
