hi there,
wanted to pick your brains on what your views on Altezza 2.0cc, 6 spd manual. What are your general views compared to a Mazda 323 or Mazda 626?

Altezza's have 4 -6 cylinder> beams..etc . Whats is all that. Can you clarify.

is 4 cylinder more economical where as 6 cylinder is less...also how is performance, cost effectiveness, after market sale value, spare parts, resale value, does the car hold its value, economical to run..etc ..over- all is it a good car to drive over a Mazda 323...

Is a sports car compared to Corolla which is more economical, cost effective to run??

Hi there,
The Altezza is a performance car. They are good and popular. Beams is a name of the engine manufacture/ enhancement brand. The 6 cylinder is available in the wagon version, these are less performance geared. The six cylinder may not necessarily use more fuel, but give a smoother power delivery. The RS200 is the yamaha tuned 2ltr 3s ge engine with 6 speed manual.
Book value for the 99, 200k car is around $6800. What they are currently going for could be different.
These cars don't really compare to the Mazda3 and 6. These also are very good cars, I would think they are more economical and fuel eficient. Cheaper to repair, and parts more available. The Mazdas are a later model car, and ones that i would prefer over the Altezzas.
I don't have the information on resale and other questions. As previously mentioned, these are old cars and information is hard to come by.

also did notice and wanted to run by you is that Altezza (98/99) manual transmission have 6spd, where as 2005 Mazda 323 , manual transmission has only 5 spd. The extra 6th gear which Altezza offer matter on NZ roads? what are your thoughts.

I would think it would be great to have that extra option of having the 6th gear. Why does not newer cars such mazda 3/6 , manual transmission do not have the 6th gear option?

I would think you would not use sixth gear all that much, it may mean the revs are a little lower when cruising on the highway. You would need to change back out more frequently when you want power, as the Altezzas don't really perform until the revs are high. If you were racing, you would notice the difference between 5 and 6 gears at high speeds.
Each manufacture is different in the way they use their gearboxes, some would have 5 and 6 gears.
