Hi I have been looking for a compact car, I have looked at the 2008 2.0 Mazda Axela and the Golf 90kw TSI 2010 model. Both cars are priced at $15990. The Mazda was pleasant and 'nice' to drive but somehow boring. The Golf I have heard can have high maintenance costs. Is this true for this 2010 model? Fuel economy, bit of gutsy power, reliability etc is what I look for, but I guess I'm asking your opinion on these two cars.... much appreciate your advice on my dilema.

Hi there,
These cars are a bit "chalk and cheese". The Golf 2010 can potentially cost more in maintenance. But you get a sportier car.
The Axela is a great, popular car choice and may be more reliable motoring.
It's almost down to Euro vs Japanese car choice, I personally like the European cars currently. For power, economy, and styling. Knowing that I will pay more for servicing.

Thanks for your feed back. Just to let you know I bought the Golf.... and very pleased with it. Took it Wgtn from Taupo. on the 18/9 .. used less than 1/2 tank of gas, topped it up $40 at Levin on the return (not knowing how fast it would empty the last 1/2 tank).... and today after local running around back home still haven't had to refill! You would think this car in it at least 1.8 ltre in power!
