I'm selling a car on Trade Me on behalf of an older family member who has recently retired from driving and no longer has a drivers license. The car is registered in his name. I understand that to change the ownership online requires both the registered owners and new owners drivers license numbers to be entered. I assume that because the registered owner no longer has a drivers license that I will not be able to change the ownership online, is this correct? Thank you.

Hi there,
If you are selling the vehicle, then the new owner can change it straight away and then you don't need to do a thing.
If they don't change it before leaving, then you need to go online and register that you have sold the car and who you have sold it to. I would try your license number and see if you can complete the transaction. Or make sure the buyer changes ownership first.

How do you notify that you have sold your car if you no longer have a drivers licence

Hi there,
Just pop in to a vehicle licensing agent (inspection centre or post office) and fill the form at the counter.
