Hi there,

I am considering buying a second-hand car for my driving practice. I found a Mazda Eunos Presso 1991, which seems to be in the great condition with 119,250km of odometer. However, the car hasn't had the cambelt done. I have read one topic in AA mentioning that cambelt change could be extremely costly.

Should I buy this car?

Thank you very much for your help.

Hi there,
I recommend speaking to your local AA workshop and ask for a cost estimate on the replacement of the cambelt, I would maybe even consider a waterpump replacement at the same time due to the age of the vehicle. You could be looking at approx $500-$1000 for this, it would all depend on the engine type.
Just bare in mind that this vehicle is 25 years old, and may require regular repairs just to keep it on the road. The low mileage is a definite positive though.
