I am about to buy a car, the most cars that I have looked at have the cvt transmission. The cars I have in mind is the likes of Mitsubishi outlander and Nissan Murano or another suitable SUV. I would like to be able to tow my 14" fiberglass boat on trips around the south Island, Witch probably weigh 500-700 kg. What are your thoughts about using a car with cvt transmission for that purpose.

Hi there,
Vehicles with the CVT transmissions usually have a very low tow capacity and it is not usually recommended to tow much at all.
However, I think your 500-700kg should not pose too many issues providing the transmission is in good condition and maybe even get it serviced before you start towing.

Hi There
Thanks for your reply, So if I stick to the tow limit recomended by the manufacture and perhabs get the transmission serviced I should be pretty safe?
Thanks Morten

You would be lessoning the odds of the transmission failure, nothing is 100% certain when dealing with CVT transmissions unfortunately.
