Greetings. I am downsizing from a Corolla wagon (1998, 1300cc, manual), seeking a 1500cc auto, generous-sized boot, that isn't CVT. (budget $7k.) Are such cars really like hens teeth? Dealers tend not to detail the transmission type. Am considering Toyota Spacio, Ractis, Ford Focus, Mazda Verisa, Maybe Nissan Note, but keep getting told 'cvt'. Your advice on make/model is most welcome.

Hi there,
Yes it is a little difficult to find the ideal car without a cvt.
Maybe try a Toyota Auris, Runx, Allex. Mazda Demio, Suzuki Swift or Maybe a Mazda Axella.
The Mazda Verisa looks good, no CVT listed for 2005. The Ractis also a good choice, but come in both conventional auto or CVT option. Nissan Notes seem to list mostly CVT's also.
It's always a good idea to check any vehicle you look at to make sure that it isn't fitted with a cvt, as with Japanese imports anything is possible.
