Hi, I own a Nissan Lafesta 2006 with 100k kms on it, and I would like to know if I should sell it or keep it longer. Generally, I have to do a top up of engine oil between services (around 4 months after the last engine oil service), the mechanics haven't found any oil leak at all, and they say that might be related to the amount of kms that the car have on it. I am planning to install a towbar to carry bicycles, so before investing on that, I want to make sure that it's safe to keep the car for at least 4+ years. Do you have any recommendations?

Hi there,
My only concern would be the longevity of the CVT transmission. The transmission type is known to give a lot of trouble and be costly to repair should anything go wrong.
If you have had the transmission serviced/ checked by a specialist and are happy that it is operating satisfactorily, there should be no reason not to get a few more years out of it.
I would not use the tow bar for anything more than holding bikes though.

Thanks for your reply. I bought the car with 84k kms on it in March of 2014 (imported from Japan), and I changed the transmission oil about 18 months ago, that was the only service that the transmission had since I bought the car. I will get it checked by an specialist then, does the AA pre purchase inspection cover that?

Our AA pre purchase inspections would not be in depth enough, it would only give an indication of the current operation of the transmission on the test drive. A specific transmission check would be recommended.
