Hi,

I've just finished a trip to Taupo from Wellington and as you'll know there are a number hills to be dealt with. I've got a 2006 Mondeo 2.0L which had 4 passengers and plenty of baggage. When going up those hills I'd sometimes need to drop down to 4th gear and put the foot right down and when doing so we'd all notice a smell very similar to popcorn being cooked. I suspect it's the clutch but I can't feel any slipping at all.

Any ideas what this could be and should I should be worried for my trip back home Wellington?

Cheers

Hi there,
It could be the clutch starting to have a hard time, or it could be something leaking onto the exhaust and smelling more when it gets hot.
It would be best to have it checked out to be on the safe side.
