I recently had my car in for servicing at an AA garage and asked them to check why the heater only appears to be working on full. Settings 1, 2 and 3 do not appear to be working. The mechanic advised that this would be the resister in the heater and I would need to have an autoelectrician service this. Can you please explain if this is the case and what the resister is. Thanks appreciate your help.

Hi there,
The heater resister/ rheostat is a small replaceable unit that controls the fan speed, it has been a common Nissan problem as these cars age. An auto electrician may be able to repair it, but would usually just need replacing with a good used or new one.
