I just recently purchased a 2000 Daihatsu YRV 1.3 manual. There is a engine rattling noise when I start it from cold, which goes away within a few minutes once the engine has warmed up.
When I bought the car and took it for a test drive the engine was already warmed and I was unaware of the problem. Did I just bought a Lemon?

Is this bad? What is it and what should i do?

Hi there,
Because this engine is operated by a timing chain as opposed to a belt, it may be just a normal start-up noise as the engine achieves operating oil pressure.
Other possibilities, may be an indication the oil is old/ low and require checking or a service.
Some other extreme possibilities can be the hydraulic chain tensioner could be worn-out, or the chain stretched. Worst-case scenario the engine could be worn and noisy until oil pressure is achieved.

Thanks for the reply. The engine only has only done 130 000km. The oil has been changed 6000km ago.
Would you sugest a engine flush?
