I have an Ipsum with an overdrive function but I am unsure when and if I should use it.

It only goes on when you push the button so I am assuming it stays off unless you are driving long distance or on the motorway?

The overdrive is like a 5th gear and so you would primarily use it out of town or in places where you are driving 80-100km.
