We are looking at purchasing a 2008 VW Golf TSI second hand with 93,000ks and would be interested in any advice you may have to offer on maintenance costs and any known issues with this type of car please? We are also unsure if it has a chain or cambelt? Thanks

The 2008 1.4TSI engine is the Super/ Turbo charged type and is reported to be a bit high-strung and I have heard of a few problems over time. Combined with the DSG Dual-clutch gearbox, this can present the possibility for some expensive repairs should things go wrong as the vehicle ages. The engine is run by a cam chain.
It may be a case of finding a good one with a good service history and maybe consider a mechanical warranty to give a piece of mind.
