Today my mini steering locked while driving. Not fun. Had it towed to BMW Tauranga. They got back to me and said nothing was wrong. 2 weeks ago they did some work on the steering ie rack pump and various hose replacements $2,300 worth. I will pick it up tomorrow but am really concerned as BMW uk recalled minis between 2002/2005 for steering issues. I don’t think BMW here know what they are doing. I don’t know how to proceed. I don’t think they even cracked the hood.... Caroll

As this is quite a serious safety concern and the problem has been highlighted overseas, I would not be happy taking the vehicle until something was found.
Intermittent faults can be very complicated to find, and generally would leave no trace of ever having a fault unless a warning light is illuminated.
The fault may take a while to find, and the workshop may need to do some research and keep the vehicle and use it until the fault eventuates.
