Hi there,
I am looking at buying a Toyota Hiace Petrol 2007 and have come across a VVT-I model. Is it less reliable than a "normal" engine? What is the situation regarding spare parts in this country in case of a break-down? Is there anything else I should know about these models?

Thank you!

Most, if not all, modern engines have variable valve timing systems. Toyota refers to their system as VVT-i (Variable Valve Timing intelligent), but each manufacturer has their own name. This improves efficiency in terms of performance, fuel economy and emissions.
So no, there's nothing to be worried about and the reality is that regardless of brand, any vehicle you buy from the modern era will have a variable valve timing system of some sort.
