I own a 2003 Nissan Pulsar and in the 3 years that I have owned the car the fan for the heater and airconditioner has required maintenance twice. Each time when the auto electrician strips the fan down he advises that the motor is clogged with leaves and after cleaning this out the fan works as normal.

The advice from the auto electrician is that leaves are being sucked in, presumably through the intake vents, but they are unable to shed any light as to how or why this is occurring.

Unfortunately the problem has occurred again and before taking in for maintenance once more, this time to a Nissan dealer, I wondered if you could provide any advice as to why this keeps occurring.

Thanks.

When the vehicle is parked under a tree the leaves drop down and collect around the base of the windscreen and lower cowl. These leaves eventually make their way through the gaps in the cowl and into the interior fan intake. Try to avoid parking under trees but obviously this isn’t always avoidable. In this case you should have the leaves removed on a frequent basis to reduce the risk of having them make their way into the interior fan.
