I have recently purchased a 2005 Honda CRV from a reputital supplier with a WOF from the local VTNZ. I have noticed that there is no High stop light. I have asked the local gargage who were not sure and i had a look at the regulations around the requirement and could work it out. Could you please advise if the car needs one and if so should the seller pay for this. The car was an import.

Hi there,
The wof regulations state that a class ma vehicle registered on, or after 1 Jan 1990 must have one or two high mounted stop lamps.
So if this is missing, then the car is not up to wof standards, yes you could ask the dealer to supply this to make the car legal.

Th car was given the Vehicle Compliance Certificate by AA Motoring and WOF was issued by AA Technical Seaview on 29/08/15. If it need a High Stop Brake Light then why was this missed. I believe it may be a MC vehicle but need comfirmation of this. Any chance you being able to check due to the above.

Thanks

Hi there,
An MC vehicle, 4wd does not require a high stop light. The same vehicle in a 2WD does.
You can fit one if you want, make sure it is in the top center position.
But it is not required by wof regulations.

Many thanks. Is the vehicle classification recorded anywhere? My problem is that if I change the place I get a WOF done, the Inspector may consider it is not a MC vehicle but a MA vehicle or they will have to research all the manufcturers data again.

Hi there,
I don't think it's written on the car anywhere. It is in the wof regulations under vehicle categories. All wof inspectors will know this rule and how to find what class the vehicle is.
If in doubt just get a lamp fitted to be on the safe side.

Okay thought as much.
