Hi
I've got a Mazda Familia 1999 1500cc vvti.
I've heard you have to be careful with oil grade especially when varible valve timing is concerned. For the last two oil changes every 6 months I've had a mechanic do it...but id like to now do it myself.

I change\have it changed at least every 6 months which works out about 5000kms. My mechanic uses 10w40 castrol magnetec, but I've heard that isn't always the best

I mostly use the car around town, so if magnetec is the most suitable, ill use it. I'm prepared to use fully synthetic if best (but don't do heaps of kms between changes) but have also heard Mazda engines can run best on premium mineral.
What would you use for my car and use, and I will use that
Thanks heaps

Hi there,
The Magnatec 10w40 oil is the correct oil listed for you a Mazda 1500 engine. I would stick with this oil. You don't need to use fully/ or semi synthetic oil.
It is recommended you change the oil once a year or 10k. I would save money and stretch the service out a little longer.
