Hello,

I have a 1993 Ford Laser with 203K on the clock. It is a 1300cc with carburetor. I suspect it is in need of a good tuneup because if I run anything lower than 98 petrol it pings under load such as when driving up hills etc. Spark plugs are fine and fuel filter should be ok too.

What I would like to know is what you would suggest I should do or what to ask to be done to the car as it is rather costly running it on 98!!

Any help would be great!

Thanks

Hi there,
I would suspect the distributor/timing would need looking at to make sure the timing advance is working and the timing is set correctly for a lower octane fuel.
You may notice that the car would be lacking in power if the timing was retarded to suit lower octane fuel, but something to look into.
