I have a 1998 Subaru Impreza 5 speed manual, it's done 127,000 km. From a standing start it often shudders, sometimes quite badly as the clutch is released. It also becoming increasingly difficult to get into reverse gear at times. Does this suggest that it's time to replace the clutch? The clutch doesn't seem to slip or give problems in any other way.

Hi there,
This does sound like it has been overheated and has heat spots causing shuddering.
Or it has been replaced before without the flywheel being dressed.
Either way, I recommend getting a technician to take a look and advise, before it causes gearbox damage, or leaves your stranded.
