I scraped the bumper on my 1 year old Toyota. When it came back from repair I noted the paint used was a couple of shades lighter than the rest of the car. It was explained to me that it is near impossible to match the paint on bumpers and bodies due to the difference in materials being painted. As an example I was told that all Audi cars leave the factory with colour variations.
The front bumper of my car is a perfect match so I don't see the relevance of this remark.
Is the repairer correct or is he just trying to hoodwink an old lady into accepting an inferior job?

Hi there,
Plastic bumpers and steel panels are very hard to colour match. When the vehicle is painted when manufactured, the whole car is painted with the exact same paint and at the same time, so has the best chance of colour matching it will ever get.
Painting carried out after this will be very hard to get a 100% match despite the painters efforts. It doesn't sound like you are being hoodwinked.
