Hi there I'm buying an old car that hasn't been registered since approx 1987. Can I keep the old plates as they are in keeping with the period? Do I just book it in for wof check or do I say it needs re vinning ? Cheers Dean

Hi there,
The vehicle will need to go through the re-compliance process, similar to that of a vehicle entering NZ for the first time. You will need to go to a specific compliance inspection centre.
It will be assigned new plates, unfortunately you can't re use your old ones.
