After a recent puncture our repairer pointed out that our two front tyres (which are 185 65 R 14) were different from the two rear ones and the spare (which are 175 70 R 14) and this was dangerous and they should be swapped front to rear and vice versa. Is this correct? The two front tyres were purchased in February of this year and the car passed a WOF in May without any problems. Thanks for any insight.

Hi there,
This means that the front tyres would be slightly wider than the rear, the rolling circumference may be slightly affected as the profile is different. It is not an ideal situation and as long as both tyres are on the same axles (front or rear) there should be not warrant of fitness issue. But to ensure the speedo remains correct, it may be best to put the factory advised tyre size on the front.
As far as the dangerous aspect, the tyres may be close to rubbing or fouling on something?. There nay be something the repairer had seen in order to make his recommendation.
