Hello - Again,

I posted the question regarding my XR6 oil light coming on and was after some advice.

The mechanics are currently pulling the engine out so gain easy access to the sump. I have been speaking to a diesel engineer who said the most likely cause is that a small metal shaving (from a very recent repair they did on the sump plug) has possibly got stuck in the pressure relief valve causing the low oil pressure problem..

If it is the relief valve causing the problem and given there has never been any problems with the engine before, would it be safe to say that a piece of stray metal is the likely cause?

Hi there,
I was going to suggest that there would be a possibility metal swarf would be stuck in the relief valve or oil pump, as you just had work done.

Hi again - In need of some advice.

The mechanics have pulled the engine out and have found that it was a piece of metal swarf stuck in the relief valve.

They said it probably came from when the sump plug was stripped but I have driven the car for 100's of hours and had an oil change since that happened but within 30 minutes of driving the car AFTER they did the sump plug repair the valve got jammed.

To me this sounds like when they repaired the sump plug they got some metal into the sump but I'm not sure how to go about proving this. Seems likely that it was the cause given how close to the repair it happened.

Not sure what I should do or say to them. Ideas?

Thanks

Hi there,
This is a tricky situation to be in, but it would seem way too much of a coincidence to not be caused by the recent work carried out.
It would be hard to prove, and you would hope the tecs who carried out the work would see it this way too.
