Can contractors charge for their mileage at what ever rate they like or should their invoices reflect something similar to the IRD's published mileage rates for self-employed people? thanks

While we create a report on the actual costs to run a new vehicles for the first five years, and the IRD average our report to create a figure for IRD use, this is still a guideline and open to negotiation between the parties concerned. (unless the IRD are paying out then you must follow their rules).
