Hi,

I had a look at a forum post by another member and the AA recommended running costs of 0.79c/km on a 2.0l vehicle. Is this the rate for a private vehicle being used for business and does it include gst?

Yes, this does include GST and is suitable for the purpose you suggest. However, 78.8c per km is for a vehicle over 2,001cc. Vehicles from 1,501cc to 2,000cc equate to 64.2c per km.
FYI, the IRD rate for all vehicles is 77c per km.
