hi there, I have a 1996 v6 Mitsubishi challenger and am using it a lot for my nanny role. Could you please let me know what I should be charging per K for petrol maintenance and use combined. Also majority of the driving is up very steep hills and is chewing through the gas and brakes. Thank you :-)

It's impossible to say with an old vehicle such as this, particularly as it's a V6 which is known to be quite thirsty.
On a late model vehicle, (say 3 - 5 years old), we would calculate this type of vehicle to have a running cost of 80c per km. However, the biggest part of the running cost is the depreciation, but your Challenger has already suffered most of its depreciation, so based on the model we use, your running cost would perhaps be around 50c per km.
However, to calculate the actual running costs on this vehicle, the only real way is to keep all receipts pertaining to running the vehicle and divide by the annual kms travelled.
The IRD allow an average of the AA rates (77c per km), but limit to 5,000km per year and you need to keep a logbook.
Finally, any negotiation between employer and employee ultimately comes down to agreement between both parties, so may differ from any calculation the AA or IRD may work out.
