My two sisters and I are all on our restricted drivers license. It is to expensive to buy a car for each of us and Mum and dad have there own cars. They only allow us to drive one of them as it is insured so is difficult to share around and spread the time between each of us evenly. Dad has a full time job and Mum has a part - time job but runs errands on the other days. We live 4kms away from the school and all go to the same school. We are only just able to afford one car for us girls. Is there and Exemption allowing to take all the sisters (3) in one car only to school and home?
Cheers

Hi Claudia,
The driver license exemptions are a part of the NZTA licensing department.
However I can see that the requirements to obtain an exemption are quite strict, and in your case may be hard to get.
This is from their website, https://www.nzta.govt.nz/driver-licences/exemptions/
We will not grant an exemption if we consider it will increase the risk to road safety

Also, we don't grant exemptions where you:
•are claiming on grounds of inconvenience or financial hardship
•want to apply for a licence and are less than 16 years old
•have already held a learner or restricted licence for the required amount of time and are eligible to apply for the next stage of your licence
•want to be exempt from having a photo or signature digitally captured or stored
•want to be exempt from re-sitting the tests after being disqualified for more than 12 months.

We’re unlikely to grant exemptions for:
•learner car driver licences (class 1)
•learner motorcycle licences (class 6)
•the first six months of your restricted licence
•work purposes only (for example nanny, security, deliveries).
