I love on a steep shared drive with 8 other houses.
Our personal drive links on half way up the main drive, in a T format. We don't have much room to manoeuvre, and there is a 6 ft fence blocking our view of down the main drive. We can see up the main drive though!

If I drive forward onto the main drive, my whole front half of my car has to stick out before I see anyone coming (hence huge possibility of a crash). We usually reverse, so that just the rear of the vehicle sticks out, giving others coming up a chance to stop, then we continue reversing until we can see.
Who would be at fault if we crashed if I was reversing? I there any solution to make it safer?

Any vehicle reversing must do so with utmost care. It doesn't necessarily follow that an accident that occurs when a vehicle is reversing is automatically the fault of the reversing vehicle, but there is a stronger possiblility that the reversing vehicle is at fault due to the simple fact that a driver who is reversing doesn't have the same field of vision as a driver going forward.
Some suggestions that could make your driveway safer might be a modification to the fence or a mirror placed at a strategic point so that all parties can see each other.
