We purchased a newly imported 2007 vehicle from a dealer in February. We have just realised that the WOF at the time of purchase was over five months old (issued 18/09/14).

My understanding is that dealers must have a WOF of less than 28 days when selling a vehicle, is this correct & what can be done about this. The company, Japan Direct in Tauranga don't want to know.

I there,
Every vehicle sold by a trader must have a warrant of fitness less than 1 month old. If it doesn't, the seller must obtain from the buyer a written undertaking that (i) if the car is sold without a warrant, the vehicle will not be used until a warrant is obtained; or (ii) where the warrant is more than a month old, the buyer accepts this.
It is a legal requirement and will be between you and the dealer.
