Ask an expert
Hi there, I am asking this question for my elderly Father inlaw.
He purchased a brand new Mitsubishi Colt April 2010, October 2015 having done 25000 km on a trip to Palmerston it blew a head gasket.
The vehicle has been regularly service by Mitsubishi.
Should this be covered?
Thanks
Hi there,
This would be an answer only the dealer/ manufacture can give. If the car is still under warranty then contact the dealer before repair. If outside this period, then there will be no obligation for the dealer to repair, but you could always ask.
Hi there, thanks for your prompt reply. The vehicle is out of warranty but I would have thought there would be an obligation under the consumer guarantees act?
Regards
Hi there,
The Act, states that the vehicle must last for a reasonable amount of time. Usually we
would say this would be 3 months for most things and maybe a bit longer on a case by case basis.
I would think 5 years is a bit too long to be using the Consumer Guarantees Act.
