Hi, I bought a Honda Prelude 1995 on 20th June this year. All seemed to be well until a couple of weeks ago when I had a skid on wet roads. The vehicle is supposed to have ABS. I took it to the AA Repairer in Taupo who put it on his machine and he told me the ABS was not working (!) Not only that but no warning light was displaying on the dashboard. I removed the dashboard to find the light holder and bulb had been removed. Since replacing, the ABS light has been lighting intermittently and is now on permanently. The code says Pump Motor Circuit problem and also High pressure leakage. My issue is that the WoF was issued the day before I bought the car and the ABS had been ticked off. I am informed the repair will be approx. $800 - $1,000. Do I have any recourse? Thank you for your time.

Hi there,
You may have a case from the vehicle seller, who mislead you into purchasing the vehicle which had such a new warrant. As this would signify that the vehicle was tested and safe to be on the road, when in fact someone had deliberately removed the bulb and evidence of the ABS having a fault. This is quite serious as a safety item is involved.
You don't have much protection if you bought the vehicle privately, as with a dealer. But I suggest looking into the contractual remedies act.More information can be found: https://www.consumeraffairs.govt.nz/consumer-law-and-your-rights/contracts-and-sales-agreements/contractual-remedies-act/.
