Before you buy, get a comprehensive car history check
Get an AA Vehicle History report and check over 3 million records held in various government and private databases, covering cars, vans, trucks, motorbikes, caravans and trailers.
Don't buy an insurance write-off, stolen car or a car about to be repossessed.
Get a step closer to buying a car with confidence
Many cars sold today have hidden problems that can cost the new owner thousands of dollars.
If the vehicle has been registered in New Zealand, the AA will quickly and accurately identify the vehicle and give you all the information you need to buy with confidence.
An AA Vehicle History Report tells you if the vehicle has:
- finance outstanding
- has been re-registered (perhaps due to an insurance write-off)
- been recorded as stolen by the Police
- a wound back/clocked odometer

Vehicle information we provide
Car history checks are emailed and provided as a PDF file that gives you the following information:
|Section||What we check|
|Security interest||Is there is any money owing on the car? If there is, the car could get repossessed.|
|Police||Has the car has been reported stolen or do the police have any alerts against it? We also check for any unpaid fees which a new owner would have to pay.|
|Odometer history||Is the odometer reading legitimate, or does it appear to have been wound back? You'll get a detailed history of the recorded odometer reading at every WoF check.|
|Warrant of fitness||This check shows the expiry date of the car's WoF.|
|Registration||The registration check shows the expiry date of the licence and will confirm the number plates and type of registration allocated against the car.|
|Vehicle details||Learn about the fuel economy, safety rating and emissions for most late model light cars.|
|Importation status||Information about the importation details of the car. We let you know about any water or fire damage to the car which would cause it to fall below the safety standards required by New Zealand law.|
|Ownership history||This part of the check will show the dates when the vehicle was bought and sold. Under NZ privacy legislation, the names of private owners cannot be disclosed, however, names of any company owners will be provided.|
