Road and transport planning

A balanced and efficient transport system that preserves freedom of mobility.

Auckland's transport network

Actions that would improve Auckland's transport network and reduce congestion problems in the city, including completing the Western Ring Route, developing the arterial road network, reducing bureaucracy and providing better public transport.

Public transport

The AA supports a balanced transport system, including public transport that is safe, responsive, reasonably priced and economically and environmentally sustainable. However, the funding for public transport should not come from taxes and levies on motorists.

Transport planning & needs

To have a transport system that protects and enhances the social, economic and environmental future of New Zealand, a long-term strategic approach to the country's transport infrastructure is needed.

Western Ring Route

The Western Ring Route is a single 48km motorway under construction in Auckland due for completion in 2015. It provides an alternative to SH1 and the Harbour Bridge, with the route combining the Southwestern (SH20), Northwestern (SH16) and Upper Harbour (SH18) Highways.
