Why you should attend a Defensive Driving Course

OK. You’ve passed your restricted licence – woo hoo! But it’s a long 18 months before you can sit your full licence. Sure, you can drive yourself – but only at certain times or with an experienced driver. You can’t take younger brothers and sisters, or your friends, anywhere. You can’t be on the road between 10pm and 5am without risking fines, demerit points or being uninsured if something happens.

It’s for your own safety, but wouldn’t it be great to slash months off this time? The answer is right here and its NZTA approved: book a Defensive Driving Course.

 What it covers

The Defensive Driving Course will make you a smarter driver – it gives you the confidence and knowledge to be safer when you’re driving. You'll learn about:

  • Searching and eye scanning while you drive
  • Assessing and identifying hazards
  • Reducing risk - watching out for the factors which cause the most crashes

The course cuts 6 months off the time you’ll have to hold a restricted licence. If you're under 25, you must have held your restricted licence for at least six months before starting this course. If you’re over 25, you can attend the course as soon as you obtain your restricted licence. This will reduce the time on your restricted licence from 6 months to 3 months.

Our courses are NZTA-approved, which guarantees that you’ll get the highest quality teaching.

What's involved

It takes 9 hours to complete the course – 4 x 2 hour theory sessions and 1 x 1 hour in-car practical session. Once you pick your start date, you’ll usually do all of these within a 2 week timeframe.

We use an interactive CD, watch videos and discuss various problems and scenarios in class. The practical session makes sure that any error patterns you might have are clearly identified and that you can practice what you’ve learned in the theory sessions. The instructor will take you through a full licence test and give you advice on how to pass comfortably.

There is no test or exam! As long as you finish all the coursework and the practical session, you’ll get your certificate at the end.

Improve your chances of passing the test by learning from the professionals.
