Our "I" Endorsement Driving Instructor Training Course will put you in the hot seat with an exciting job training our nation's drivers. You’ll gain the qualification needed to apply for an "I" endorsement which allows you to professionally teach drivers in New Zealand.
If you enjoy driving and like helping people to achieve important milestones in their life, a career as a driving instructor could be perfect for you!
Approved by the NZ Transport Agency, the "I" Endorsement Driving Instructor Training Course is based on NZQA unit standards, is completed over eight days and includes:
Once you've successfully passed this course, you’ll be able to apply for the "I" Endorsement and start work as a Driving Instructor.
You'll have an in-depth knowledge of New Zealand's driver licensing system, road rules and an overview of the legal aspects governing the driver training industry.
You'll have learned tangible Driver Instructor teaching skills, including:
You'll need to have held a full New Zealand driver's licence for two years or more.
Once you've passed the course you'll need to be assessed by NZ Police as a 'fit and proper person' to act as an instructor. The NZ Transport Agency coordinates this vetting process. If you have any concerns about this, you can discuss this with us - or the NZ Transport Agency - prior to enrolling in the course.
If you hold an overseas licence and would like to attend the course, please call NZ Transport Agency on 0800 822 422 to find out further information.
The course fee is payable in two parts. We require a 50% deposit no later than ten working days prior to your course start date. When we have received your deposit, we'll forward your pre-course material. The balance is payable on the first day of your course. Your course fee covers all aspects of the course, including:
Note that you'll also need to apply for the "I" Endorsement through NZ Transport Agency when you pass the course. It's an extra cost which includes application and vetting fees. You may need a medical examination and/or to re-sit your practical driving test. Other additional costs include the cost of receiving your Fit and Proper assessment by the NZ Police.
Course dates/times will run subject to sufficient bookings. Courses can provided as eight day block courses, or one day introductory courses followed by self paced learning and follow up assessment. Please contact Belinda on 0800 223 748 or 09 966 8945 to talk about upcoming courses.
