AA Rewards

1. Definitions

In these Terms and Conditions:

"Card" means the Membership card issued by AA to the member

"AA Rewards" means AA Rewards Limited

"Coupon" or "Coupon or reward" means the original document of entitlement issued by AA Rewards and which provides the specific Member named on the document the right to present the Coupon for the entitlement or reward described on the document

"Eligible Transaction" means any purchase of qualifying goods and services which is made at a Participating Retailer or Supplier by a Member who produces a valid Membership card, or quotes their current Membership number, and which is recorded by the Participating Retailer or Supplier by any means authorised by AA Rewards.

"AA" means The New Zealand Automobile Association Incorporated

"Member" means the individual financial Member in whose name the AA Membership is maintained

"Membership Year" means the twelve month period covered by the Member's Membership of the AA

"Participating Retailers and Suppliers" means those retailers or suppliers who are authorised by AA Rewards to participate in the Programme by issuing AA Rewards Points on Eligible Transactions and redeeming Coupons

"AA Rewards Points Account" means the AA Rewards AA Rewards Points Account in which the Member shall accrue AA Rewards Points by participating in the Programme

"Programme" means the rewards programme offered by AA Rewards as described in these Terms and Conditions

2. Participation

2.1 Entry into the Programme is as of right for all Members but Members may elect not to participate. Participation consists of presenting the Card when making purchases of Eligible Transactions and thereby collecting AA Rewards Points.

2.2 By participating in the Programme a Member agrees to comply with these Terms and Conditions and gives the authorisations and acknowledgements set out below.

3. Accumulation of AA Rewards Points

3.1 AA Rewards Points are awarded to the Member's AA Rewards Points Account in respect of Eligible Transactions from Participating Retailers and Suppliers throughout New Zealand only after the Participating Retailers and Suppliers have notified AA Rewards of the details of the Eligible Transaction.

3.2 AA Rewards and Participating Retailers and Suppliers will determine from time to time purchases of which goods or services are Eligible Transactions.

3.3 AA Rewards Points may be cancelled by AA Rewards where any Eligible Transaction is cancelled or modified in whole or in part by a Member or by a Participating Retailer or Supplier. The cancellation of AA Rewards Points may occur at any stage, whether or not the AA Rewards Points may previously have been redeemed.

3.4 AA Rewards Points accrue in the Member's name only and are personal to that Member.

3.5 AA Rewards Points are not transferable to any other person and are not redeemable or convertible for cash.

3.6 Members can determine their current AA Rewards Points level at anytime by visiting www.aa.co.nz from any telephone in New Zealand by dialling 0800 500 444 and following the simple automatic instructions or by calling any AA Centre (0800 500 444).

3.7 Accumulated AA Rewards Points may be used as a discount against the member's AA subscription fee. The number of AA Rewards Points which may be so used will be that number in the member's AA Rewards Points Account at a date determined by AA and AA Rewards. AA Rewards Points subsequently earned will accrue in the usual way.

3.8 AA Rewards will from time-to-time communicate to Members via the "AA Directions" magazine, to detail the number of AA Rewards Points that can be earned from Participating Retailers

4. Duration and loss of rewards

4.1 AA Rewards Points can only be earned by the Member while a Member of the AA.

4.2 AA Rewards Points that are earned are held in the Member's AA Rewards Points Account. The AA Rewards Points Account has the same term as the Member's AA Membership Year.

4.3 AA Rewards Points which are not redeemed by the end of the Membership Year in which they were earned can be carried forward for one further year but if unused at the conclusion of the following Membership Year they will automatically lapse and will be forfeited.

4.4 Upon ceasing to be a AA Member, the Member ceases to be eligible to participate in the Programme and any remaining AA Rewards Points balance will be forfeited. Former Members will still be entitled to redeem any Coupons that they may have in their possession, prior to their printed expiry date.

4.5 AA Rewards reserve the right to suspend or exclude a Member from participating or continuing to participate in the Programme if:

(a) In its opinion the Member has in any way breached these Terms and Conditions, or acted in a misleading or fraudulent manner in relation to the Programme; or

(b) In its opinion the Member has acted in a manner inconsistent with the object and intent of the Programme or contrary to the best interests of the Programme or any of its Participating Retailers or Suppliers.

4.6 AA Rewards may in its discretion cancel all AA Rewards Points which have accrued to a Member if their right to participate in the Programme is suspended or excluded.

4.7 Without limiting clause 4.5, AA Rewards reserves the right to cancel or suspend AA Rewards Points earned by Members who have failed to renew their AA Membership within thirty days of due date.

5. Rewards redemption 

5.1 AA Rewards Points earned during a Member's Membership Year will accumulate. Whenever the balance reaches 200 AA Rewards Points (or another level determined by AA Rewards from time-to-time), the Member qualifies for a Coupon reward subject to any change by AA Rewards. Each 200 AA Rewards Points will earn a Coupon in the amount of $20.00. The Coupon can be presented at Participating Retailers and Suppliers as a $20 discount off a purchase of $20 or more including GST (if any).

5.2 Coupons can only be used for discount of any purchases that total greater than the value of the coupons presented. Coupons cannot be exchanged for cash. More than one Coupon can be presented at any one time.

5.3 Damaged, copied or defaced Coupons will not be accepted.

5.4 Each Coupon is made out to the specific Member and is for their personal use only. At the time of presenting a Coupon, the Member will be requested to show their AA Membership card for identification. Members may be asked for further identification.

5.5 Coupons remain valid until the expiry date shown on the Coupon and then lapse.

5.6 Coupons cannot be re-issued or replaced if they lapse, are lost, stolen or otherwise destroyed. Any unauthorised alteration or change to a Coupon renders it invalid.

5.7 Coupons can be used towards a discount on the payment of the Member's annual AA subscription renewal. In addition, Member's renewal notices may offer a discount option on certain terms and conditions that uses accumulated AA Rewards Points available for that purpose.

5.8 Coupon issue and mailing is in full and final satisfaction of all obligations of AA Rewards to the Member in respect of relevant AA Rewards Points. Once AA Rewards Points have been redeemed by the issue of a Coupon, they cannot be transferred back to a Member's AA Rewards Points Account.

5.9 Coupons shall be delivered by post to qualifying Members at frequent intervals as determined by AA Rewards throughout the Programme: 

6. Conditions on redeeming rewards

6.1 AA Rewards may, without notice, withdraw Coupons or substitute any Coupon for another reward of comparable value and nature.

6.2 All correspondence will be forwarded by post to the Member's last known address identified by your AA Membership records. If a Member fails to notify the AA of a change of address and as a result a Coupon is lost or mislaid, no replacement Coupon will be issued and the AA Rewards Points will not be re-credited to the Member's AA Rewards Points Account.

6.3 Should a Coupon arrive damaged or faulty please notify the AA Rewards Service Centre within three days of receipt giving full details (0800 500 444).

7. Disclaimer

7.1 AA Rewards is offered by AA as an ancillary benefit to Members. AA Rewards has no responsibility to any Member or any recipient of a Coupon or reward for any liability whatsoever that may arise from the Programme, other than expressed in these Terms and Conditions.

7.2 AA Rewards will take all reasonable care to ensure that information it publishes in relation to AA Rewards is accurate, but does not accept any liability relating to information provided by third parties.

7.3 AA Rewards does not accept any liability whatsoever with respect to:

7.3.1 Coupons or rewards supplied;

7.3.2 Any death or injury or consequential loss or damage arising from the issue or use of a Coupon or Reward;

7.3.3 The loss, theft or destruction of a Coupon or reward; and

7.3.4 Any supplier's refusal to accept a Coupon; and excludes all warranties and representations whether oral or written of any nature whatsoever except those as are unable to be excluded by law including but without limitation under the Fair Trading Act 1986 and the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993.

7.4 These Terms and Conditions are subject to all relevant laws, governmental directions or court orders.

8. Taxation

8.1 Neither AA nor AA Rewards accepts any responsibility in respect of taxation issue or liability arising from the aggregation of AA Rewards Points or the redemption of Coupons or rewards or otherwise with respect to participation.

8.2 Members are solely responsible for the tax treatment of Coupons redeemed. AA Rewards gives no warranty and accepts no responsibility as to the taxation treatment of personal or business related Coupons or rewards.

9. General

9.1 AA may at any time at its discretion suspend or terminate the Programme or cancel, change or substitute the rewards by giving notice to Members. If AA terminates the Programme then Members may apply any unredeemed AA Rewards Points towards a discount on their AA Membership subscription. Any unredeemed AA Rewards Points not utilised in this manner will be cancelled and be null and void. No AA Rewards Points can be accumulated while the Programme is suspended or if it is terminated.

9.2 Any Participating Retailer's or Supplier's participation in the Programme is subject to change without notice.

9.3 AA and AA Rewards reserve the right to vary these Terms and Conditions from time to time. Members will be given prior notice of any change which is not to the benefit of Members.

9.4 Any notice in respect of the Programme or otherwise under these Terms and Conditions will be deemed to have been given if printed in the AA Rewards advertisement within the AA Directions magazine, or alternatively included in a letter or newsletter posted to a Member's last address notified to the AA under clause 6.2. Neither AA Rewards or Participating Retailers and Suppliers shall have any responsibility for requests or any correspondence (including Coupons) lost or destroyed by mail.

9.5 AA shall license an agent or contractor to carry out all or part of the operation of the Programme on its behalf. Members who participate in the Programme consent to AA supplying any agent or contractor with such information from their AA Membership files as is required for those agents to perform their duties.

9.6 Any dispute concerning the goods and services for which coupons are redeemed must be settled between the service/goods suppliers and the Member, not AA Rewards.

9.7 Participating Retailers and Suppliers do not have authority to make any representation or warranty on behalf of AA Rewards or the Programme.

9.8 Notwithstanding clause 9.1 AA may at any time in its sole and absolute discretion suspend or terminate the programme with or without notice to Members in the event of an event of force majeure (being acts or omissions outside or beyond reasonable control of the AA or AA Rewards).

9.9 Rewards may be offered by Participating Retailers and Suppliers on such terms as they advise. AA Rewards shall not be held responsible for offers by Participating Retailers and Suppliers or the conditions thereof or for the performance of or provisions of offers.

10. Privacy act

Please Note:

10.1 If a Member participates in the Programme, by using their card or quoting their Membership number to collect AA Rewards Points, personal information will be collected about that Member.

10.2 The information will be gathered and stored by or for AA Rewards and Participating Retailers and Suppliers to detail the manner, timing and pattern of collection of AA Rewards Points, the buying/spending patterns of Members, and associated transactional data. 

10.3 The information will be available for use by AA Rewards and its agents, AA and other Participating Retailers and Suppliers in the Programme.

10.4 The information is being collected and held on behalf of AA Rewards, and the Member it concerns may access and request correction of this information under the Privacy Act 1993.

10.5 By participating in the Programme, the Member accepts these terms, and grants permission to the collection and use of their personal information as set out above, and the disclosure of such information to other Participating Retailers and Suppliers as AA Rewards considers appropriate for the purposes of operation of the Programme and for such Participating Retailers' marketing purposes.
