It was the little things that netted Mercury Bay Holiday Park this year’s AA Traveller Spirit of Hospitality Award, presented to managers Helena and Craig Stratford last night at the Holiday Accommodation Parks Association of New Zealand (HAPNZ) Conference in Blenheim.
AA Tourism Publishing Limited General Manager Moira Penman says the Stratfords demonstrate it is the little things that can make a huge difference to their guests’ experience.
“Jump starting cars, lending spades to dig soak holes at the famous Hot Water Beach, booking boat trips and restaurants, recommending things to see and do, charging mobile phones and changing tyres are just a few of the things their guests have said they have appreciated,” she says.
“Here is a team of just two that is proud to have the opportunity every day to be ambassadors for their town, industry and New Zealand. It was this simple belief the judges felt embodied the philosophy of the AA Traveller Spirit of Hospitality Award.”
“I congratulate Helena and Craig on their win. But I also congratulate and thank the All Seasons Holiday Park Rotorua, Aspiring Holiday Park & Motels in Wanaka, Bowentown Beach Holiday Park at Waihi Beach and Mawley Holiday Park in Masterton for providing such a high level of hospitality to their guests,” says Ms Penman.
Holiday Parks Association New Zealand (HAPNZ) Chief Executive Fergus Brown says the AA Traveller Spirit of Hospitality Award is recognised by HAPNZ members as the premium award.
“This award emphasises the importance of world class customer service and acknowledges those who are providing their guests with an exceptional experience.
“Our members appreciate the encouragement that AA Traveller has provided to the Holiday Park sector over the many years,” he says.
The judging panel was made up of representatives from the AA and AA Traveller, Qualmark, HAPNZ and Inside Tourism.
